Birdhouse

Materials Needed:

PSP 8 - get it here - would also work in ver. 7 with modification

1. Open a new image 500 x 500. Flood fill with a colour if desired.

2. With your preset shapes tool, retain style unchecked, antialias and create as vector checked, draw a triangle in a colour of your choice toward the left side of the canvas. I used ##DCFEE4 Hint: you can move it by clicking and holding on the centre of the triangle and moving the mouse left, release when it's where you want it. Layers--->Convert to Raster Layer, name the layer "top front".

2. Now, draw a pentagon so that the bottom is right under and attached to the triangle. I have used a different colour so you can see it better, you can use the same colour as your top or a coordinating colour if you like. Hint: you can manipulate it to fit exact instead of trying to draw it exactly, by pushing in or out on the sides. The reason I'm using two shapes instead of just a pentagon is that the pentagon doesn't give the long top part that I want.

Convert to raster layer and name "bottom front". Move this layer so that it is under the triangle layer.

3. Go up to your top layer and draw a long rectangle as shown (still in vector - it will automatically draw on a new layer). Once again, I've used a different colour so it shows up better:

4. Move your mouse near the square halfway down the right hand side until your pointer turns to this:

Click and hold the mouse button and drag up to move the square as shown.

Let go of the mouse and then click on the centre and hold down and move over to line it up with the roof. You may need to adjust it a few times until you get it right. You will also likely need to lengthen it, just grab the lower right corner and pull down and out as shown until it's the proper length. Don't worry if you can't get it lined up exactly with the front top as you will cover any small gap with the trim later on.

Convert the layer to raster layer and rename to "side top".

5. With your preset shapes tool, draw a pentagram so that the right corner lines up with the lower right corner of the side top, as shown. Once again, I used a contrasting colour to make it easier for you to see.

Grab the bottom right corner with your mouse and hold down the Shift key and pull up with the mouse as shown:

Realign that right corner and pull down to bring the bottom down to line up with the bottom of the front piece.

You will need to realign the corner and pull down a time or two to get it right. You also may have to pull out on the left side a smidgen if you have a wee gap at the bottom left. When you have it the way you want it, convert to raster layer, rename to "side bottom" and drag the layer down to below the bottom front layer.
Hints:

1. You may find it easier to move the layer down before deforming the side in order to see where to line it up better. Using a different colour than the rest also makes it easier to see. You can always flood fill after with the colour you want.

2. You might have a bit of the bottom showing over the side of that roof corner. Just zoom in a time or two and erase the part that is protruding - after you've moved the layer down.

Here is how our birdhouse looks:
