Candle Holder Page 2

10. Add new layer and name it "top rim". With preset shapes tool, and foreground colour white, background set to "nil", and line width in the tool options window set to 12, draw a horizontal ellipse above the legs. (it doesn't have to be touching at this point). Don't make it too big height-wise, that way you won't have to deform it. (If you want, you can make it bigger and use the deform tool to give it a flatter look.) Make it wider than the legs.

11. Using your magic wand, select inside the rim. Selections----modify---->Expand by 2 pixels. Apply a Blade Pro preset. I used the same one as in step #3, but you can use a different one if you like.

12. With the magic wand, click inside the ellipse and expand by 3 pixels. Add new layer and name it "top inside".

13. Flood fill with white and deselect. Apply the same BP preset as in step #11 or if you like, you can use a different one. If you are using the browniron, don't panic if your preview window shows a darker colour for the screen, it doesn't take when you hit "ok".  Image---->flip and with your mover tool, move it to inside the rim. You may have to use your deformation tool to adjust the fit. Move this layer to below the rim layer.

NOTE: You can get some different looks for this. Instead of deselecting the inside before applying BP, leave it selected and the preset will be darker.  Or, you can draw the ellipse in step #10 as a filled in image (set your background colour as white) and apply the BP preset. Here's how it looks done this way with the preset I'm using:

Amazing how just a minor modification such as this makes such a difference, eh? :) If you do this latter one, skip step #14a.

14a.Turn off all layers except the rim and rim inside. Merge visible. Turn on all layers and with your mover tool, set the top on the legs and centre it.

b.If you like, you can resize, delete your background layer then merge visible and tube the candle holder at this point. That way, you can use it with different candles or objects.

16. Add a new layer and place a candle on it, then turn off or delete your background layer, merge visible, resize etc. Click here and here for a couple of candle tuts. Try the lamp part out in the latter one, too - it's a neat tut!

I couldn't make this into a transparent gif because the reduced colours makes the candle look really horrible.

You can also do this with different dingbats for the legs - I'm sure you can come up with some really creative ones.  :)
