This tutorial was written for the Prestigious Dames Nursery Rhyme project. Click here for Char's mouse tutorial.
Materials Needed:
PSP 7.x - Get it here - would also work in 6.x
A wood pattern of your choice - I got mine here
Dividers Dingbat - get it here
Optional: Blade Pro or Super Blade Pro - get it here
A gold preset - I got mine from Mardiweb - the zip with the presets is near the bottom of the page
If you don't have BP or SBP, download the gold chain link here
The screenshots have been reduced in size to save loading time and quality may be compromised. Yours will look much better.
Note: whenever I say to add a layer, add a raster layer
1. Open new image 600 x 900. Add new layer. Name it "clock face back".
2. With selection tool, feather 0, antialias checked, draw a rectangle from 175, 100 to 425, 320 and flood fill with your wood pattern, angle 90. Selections--->Float. Effects--->3D Effects--->Cutout. Use the following settings and deselect:
3. Add a new layer, naming it "clock face top" and draw a rectangle
from 145, 85 to 455, 101. Flood fill with the wood pattern, angle 0. Deselect.
Effects---3D Effects - Inner Bevel. Apply the angled preset but change the width
to 4, the depth to 1 and the Elevation to 25.
4. Layers--->Duplicate. Rename duplicate layer "clock face bottom".
Use your mover tool to place the piece at the bottom of the rectangle. Hint:
Use your grid for accurate placement. Or, you can Select All then Float, then
hold down your SHIFT key and hit your arrow down key until it moves down to
the desired spot - this makes it more accurate placement but it took me 243
strokes to do it!
5. Click on your background layer and add a new layer. Name it "left decorative pole" With your text tool, lay down the Dividers dingbat, letter small "i", size 36. If you are using PSP 7.x, use the wood pattern as your background colour with an angle of 90, foreground null, as shown in image below.. For other versions of PSP, put the text down and then flood fill with the wood. Deselect.
Image--->Rotate by 90 degrees, left or right makes no difference. Make sure "all layers" is UNchecked. Move into place on the left side of the clock, it will overlap on the clock face top and bottom layers, that is okay. I used the deform tool to get it to fit the way I wanted.
6. With your selection tool, draw a rectangle over the top of the dingbat that you want to get rid of.
Hit delete or Edit--->Clear. Do the same for the bottom of the dingbat.
7. Apply the inner bevel, angled preset, changing the depth to 1 and elevation to 25.
8. Layers--->Duplicate (or just click on the layer and choose "duplicate"). Image--->mirror. This should place it in the same position on the right hand side, but adjust with the mover tool if you need to. Rename this layer "right decorative pole".
9. Go to your top layer and add a new layer, naming it "clock face". With your selection tool, draw a circle starting at 300, 210. Make it as big as you wish, I did mine to 173.
10. Flood fill with the MD-Gold gradient at a 45 degree angle. Colors---> Adjust--->Brightness/Contrast - enter 20 in the Brightness field, 0 in Contrast. Selections--->Save to alpha channel. Name the selection "face". Deselect.
