Tubes - mummy is from Kandy, the jack-o-lantern is from Roxie who's site is no longer on the web; the bats are from Jasc's holiday tubes
Tutorials for the images I made - Monica's moon; Monica's tree; Jan's ghost and Sue's haunted house
Materials Needed:
PSP 7.x - Get it here - will also work in PSP 6.x
wood pattern - I got mine here
font of your choice - I used "Bloody", available here
Dingbat of your choice - I used "Trick or Treat", available here
Tube of your choice for the top
Note: Whenever I say to add a new layer, add a raster layer
1. Open a new image 500 x 500 and flood fill with a background colour if desired.
2. Add a new layer and with your selection tool, feather 0, antialias checked, draw a long rectangle and flood fill with wood pattern set with a 90 degree angle. Deselect.
3. Effects--->3D Effects--->Inner Bevel. Apply the Round preset but change the depth to 1. Depending on what wood pattern you use, you might also want to change the elevation - I set mine at 33.
4. Add a new layer draw a rectangle across the post. Flood fill with your wood pattern, changing the angle to 0.
5. Take your lasso tool, feather 0, antialias checked, point to point, and draw a triangle as shown in image below:
Edit--->Clear or just hit the Delete key.
6. Draw another triangle as shown and Clear or Delete:
7. Apply the same inner bevel as in step #3 - I changed the elevation to 35 as, with the wood pattern I used, the bevel was too dark for my text. What you do will depend on which wood pattern you use. You might want to move the beam over to the right a bit to centre it better, if need be.
8. Left click on the layer in the layer palette and choose Duplicate. Do this for each beam you want to have - I used three.
9. With your mover tool, move the duplicate beams further down on the post.
10. Now, go back to the top beam layer and apply text with the font and colour of your choice and do the same for each beam. (for the second beam, I mirrored it first to get it pointing in the opposite direction - Image--->Mirror) I used "Bloody" font in red. You might want to apply the text on new layers, so you can move it around later if you need to.
11. Apply dingbats of your choice in colour(s) of your choice.
12. To make nails, add a new layer and draw a small circle with the selection tool, flood fill with a dark gray I used #666464. Apply the round inner bevel but change the depth to 3.
13. Edit--->Copy. Edit--->Paste--->As new selection and place below the first nail.
13. Edit--->Paste as new selection and place on the next board down. Keep doing this until you have the nails on all 3 beams.
14. Add a new layer and place a tube of a Halloween object on the top of the post. You could use a pumpkin, witch, ghost, anything you choose.
15. Delete the bottom layer and merge visible. You now have a sign to place in your Halloween images.
Enjoy!
