Key to My Heart

Materials needed:

PSP 7.x - get it here

Super Blade Pro or Blade Pro - get it here (optional)**

Gold preset - I got mine here - the download is near the bottom of the page

**If you don't have BP or SBP and would like to use PSP's sculpture effect, there are many wonderful presets available to download here

****Note: whenever I say to add a new layer, add a raster layer

1. Open a new image 500 x 200. Flood fill with a dark colour, if desired. Add a new layer. On this new layer, draw a white circle with your preset shapes tool, antialias checked, create as vector and retain style unchecked, line width 7. Use the ellipse shape and hold down the shift key while drawing with the left mouse button to get a circle.

2. Use the magic wand to select the circle and apply a gold BP or SBP preset. I used the gold_shiny from Mardiweb and changed the glare to 63 and reflection to 61. If you don't have BP or SBP, you could apply a Sculpture preset or even use a colour and then bevel it.

3. Layers--->Duplicate. Go back to the original circle layer and duplicate again. Move your duplicate layers so the three circles are arranged as shown below:

4. Go to your background layer and add a new layer. With your preset shapes tool, draw a long rounded rectangle, colour white. Select with magic wand and apply the same gold preset. I used the same changes as in step #2 but also changed the height to 26. If you need to, use your mover tool to make sure it is in position with the right end behind two of the circles and erase any part showing behind the circles as shown in image:

4. Add a new layer and draw two small regular rectangles at the left end of the long one, as shown (I made mine two different sizes) and apply the same preset as in step #4:

5. Turn off your background layer and merge visible the rest. Set this image aside for a moment.

6. Open a new image 400 x 400 and flood fill with a dark colour if desired. With your preset shapes, draw a heart (heart 1 in your shapes list) in the middle of the canvas, leaving enough room at the edges for part of your key:

7. Select the heart with your magic wand and apply the gold preset. I changed the glare to 25, the reflection to 60 and the shape to the bottom (round) one on the list :

8. Go back to your key and on the merged layer, Edit--->Copy. Now, go to your heart image, and Edit--->Paste as new layer.

9. Image--->Rotate to the left by 25 degrees, or whatever amount you prefer.

10. With your mover tool, move the key so it is sticking through the heart.

11. Zoom in once or twice, and with the eraser tool, erase the part of the key that overlaps the heart down by the end as shown. This makes it look like that part is behind the heart.

12. Turn off or delete your back layer and merge visible the others. If you like, you can make a necklace out of the heart and key (see my necklace tutorials here or here to make a chain and clasp). Or you can frame it and give it a fancy background and send it to your loved one like that.

Enjoy!
