Stained Glass Butterfly

1. Open a new image 250 x 250. Flood fill with a colour if desired.

2. Click on your preset shapes tool, create as vector and antialias checked, retain style unchecked, line width 5, have your foreground and background contrasting colours I have used #FFCBFF for foreground and #4B4B8F for background. Draw an ellipse as shown:

3. Click on your pen tool and then on each of the four nodes, right click and choose Node Type--->Symmetric.

4. Grab the left side node and pull in to the right, as shown:

Now, grab the top node and pull up a bit and to the left, then grab the arrow and pull to the right. Grab the bottom node and pull down a bit and to the left, then pull to the right on the tab:

Pull to the left on the right node and make any tweaks you need. I ended up pulling back to the left a bit on the left side node.

Layers--->Convert to Raster Layer. Rename "left wing"

5. With your magic wand, click on the outside colour to select it. Effects--->Texture Effects--->Sculpture. Select the Silver preset and change the Depth to 1 and Shininess to 22. Deselect. Select inside the wing and Selections--->Modify--->Expand by 1. Hit your delete key to delete the colour. Keep selected and go down to your bottom layer and add a new raster layer. Flood fill with your stained glass pattern. I am using 4441w.jpg from Spectrum Glass at a scale of 30. If desired, reduce the opacity of the layer. I put mine down to 60% - a lot will depend on the glass pattern you are using. Here's what it looks like without the background layer:

6. Turn off your background layer and merge visible the other two. Rename merged layer to "left wing". Turn background layer back on.

7. On left wing layer, Layers--->Duplicate. Image--->Mirror. Rename duplicate layer "right wing" and make any adjustments you need to the position:

8. Add a new raster layer and name it "body". Click on your preset shapes tool and take the check off create as vector. Foreground null, background a grey colour I am using #808080. Draw a thin ellipse between the wings for the body. Effects--->3D Effects--->Inner Bevel. Select the Round preset and change the Depth to 1, Shininess to 0 and Elevation to 35:

9. Add a new raster layer and name it "head". With the preset shapes tool, same settings, draw a small circle on top of the body for the head. Apply the same inner bevel.

10. Turn off your background layer and merge visible the rest. Rename the merged layer "butterfly". Turn the background layer back on. With your mover tool, move the butterfly to the bottom centre of the canvas.

11. Go to your background layer and add a new raster layer. Name it "anntennas". Background colour null foreground same grey as for the body. Click on your pen tool and use these settings:

Draw two anennas coming out from the head. Tip: I just drew one and then duplicated the layer and mirrored it to get them even.

12. Turn off the background layer and merge visible the rest. Rename merged layer "butterfly" and turn the background layer back on. Image--->Canvas Size. Width 300 Height 450 and click on the top centre arrow under Placement:

Flood fill your background layer with the colour you have chosen.

13. Click on your preset shapes tool, and set the foreground to null and background to a metallic gradient. I am using the metallic from PSP 7. Angle 90, repeats 0, linear. Go to your background layer and add a new raster layer called "pole". Draw a long thin rounded rectangle for the pole.

14. Selections--->Select All. Selections--->Float to select the pole. Go to the background layer, add a new raster layer and flood fill with a grey colour. I am using #EEECEC. Deselect. Set your layer blend mode to multiply.

15. Delete your background layer and merge visible the rest. Export as a picture tube to use in your garden images.

Note: This does not resize well, so it's best to use as a tube that way you can use different sizes and still keep the quality.
