Christmas Tree Ornament

Materials needed:

PSP 7 - get it here

KPT 5 - get it here

Cool Kitchen Preset - if you don't have it, click here to download. Unzip and put in your KPT--->Presets--->EnvMaps folder

1. New image 600 x 600. Flood fill with a background colour if desired. Add a new raster layer.

2. With your preset shapes tool, antialias checked, retain syle and vector unchecked, draw an ellipse, any colour. Make it fairly wide as our next step will narrow it considerably.

3. Effects ---->geometric ---->perspective vertical - 75

4. Image ---->flip

5. Effects ---> geometric ---->perspective vertical - 90

(You may have to use different settings, dependent on how wide you made your ellipse)

Image ----> resize ----> 50%, resize all layers checked, maintain ratio checked (resizing gets rid of the jaggies)

6. Selections ---->Select all. With your magic wand, touch your shape to select it.

At this point, I saved mine to use for making different colours, it saves a few steps, which leaves more time for other stuff. :) Before saving, if you crop your blank space around the ornament, your file size will be smaller (this would be a concern for those with smaller harddrives or who don't have a lot of free space on their hdd) If you choose to save yours, Shift+D to make a duplicate to work on.

7. Effects ----> Plugin Filters ----> KPT 5 ----> Shapeshifter. Import your Cool Kitchen Environment Map and use the settings on the diagram below. (click on the image to see it full-size)

Main Shape - play with the bevel scale and height for different looks

Bump Map - I used perlin noise (which is the default) both settings exactly in the middle. You can change these to get bumps of different textures if you like

3-D Lighting - I used the Lukewarm preset (click on the upside down triangle in the upper right corner of the 3-D Lighting section to get the presets)

Environment - Click on the upside down triangle and choose import environment map, then select the cool kitchen from the Environment maps folder. Changing from metal to plastic gives different looks and right below that button, click on the coloured rectangle to choose your colour

You don't want Glow for this one and I didn't use the Shadow.

You can play around with your settings to get different effects. What really makes this effect is a. the bump map and b. the bevel on the main image. When you have it the way you want to, click on the check mark in the lower right corner. (you can save your preset first if you like. Here is a tutorial on how to save presets.) Deselect.

8. Image ---->canvas size ----> New width 150, new height 375. Center image horizontally checked, centre image vertically unchecked. Top - 75, Bottom 0. Now, add a topper tube or make your own. Here's how I made mine: add a new raster layer and with your preset shapes tool, draw a triangle over the top of the ornament. To get it to fit snugly, you can use your mover tool and deform tool. Then, draw a long elipse on top, with your line width set to 4.

9. You can flood fill with white and apply a Blade Pro or Super Blade Pro preset. I used the gold glitter preset, changing the height to -11. Or you can use PSP's sculputre tool or flood fill with a gradient (a metallic one or a gold one) and apply an inner bevel.

10. You can delete your background layer now and merge visible the other layers. Now, you can tube your ornament.
