Snowman Page 2
13. Go to your body layer and add a new layer, naming it "buttons".
With your selection tool, same settings, draw a circle at the top
centre of the body, apply the same inner bevel. Use the same technique
in steps 11 and 12 to place buttons down the centre of the body.
14. Image--->Canvas Size. Use the following settings
Go down to your background layer and flood fill with the colour
you are using to fill in the blank space.
15. Go back up to your button layer and add a new layer, naming
it "hat rim". With the selection tool, same settings,
draw a thin rectangle across the head and flood fill with black.
Apply the same inner bevel.
16. Add a new layer and name it "hat". Draw another
rectangle on top of the hat rim, flood fill with black and apply
the same inner bevel.
17. Add a new layer naming it "hat band". With your
selection tool, same settings, draw a rectangle across the hat down
near the rim. Flood fill with a colour or gradient of your choice.
I used Mahogany's Gold Satin gradient, set at a 45 degree angle,
then added Noise at 3% uniform, then adjusted the brightness by
15%.
18. Go to your body layer and add a new layer, naming it "left
arm". Select your Draw Tool (image) set to Freehand line, width
8, antialias checked, create as vector and close path UNchecked.
Set your foreground colour to a medium brown (I used #9F7A73) and
the background to null. Draw a line out from the body of the snowman,
change your width to 6, and draw a couple lines near the outer edge,
as shown:
19. Take your magic wand and click on the stick to select it,
change your foreground colour to a dark brown (I used #6C5854) and
the foreground texture to "Tree Bark":
Flood fill the stick. Apply the round inner bevel, but change
the Smoothness to 19, Depth to 5, Shininess to 0 and Elevation to
34. Deselect. Move layer down below the body layer if desired, to
hide the bevel edge.
20. Add a new layer and name it "right arm". Use the
same technique on the right side to draw a stick arm. (You could
just duplicate your left layer and mirror it, but what are the chances
of two sticks being exactly the same?) I found I needed to lower
the elevation to get the bevel the same as the left arm, I have
no idea why it looked so different, so play around with it if you
need to.
21. Go to your buttons layer and add a layer, naming it "right
scarf". Here is how your layers should look - click on the
image to see it full size:
22. Take your draw tool, keep it on freehand line and change
the width to 30. Change the foreground to a colour of your choosing
(I used #008000). Lower the opacity of your head layer so you can
see behind it and draw the first part of your scarf as shown:
The reason I lowered the opacity on the head is so I could draw
the scarf from behind the head, that way it looked more natural.
23. With your magic wand, click on the scarf. Effects--->Texture
Effects--->Texture. Here are the settings I used:
